The Truth About "Clean Beauty": What It Actually Means

Clean beauty is around us. From the skincare section in stores in the UK to the routines that influencers follow in the US. Even though it is really popular the term clean beauty does not have a clear and universal meaning. Clean beauty is not like the terms organic or FDA-approved which have rules and regulations. This means that companies can interpret beauty in their own way.

At its heart clean beauty is about making products that do not have ingredients that could be bad for our health. These ingredients can include things like parabens, sulfates, phthalates and synthetic fragrances. However what one company thinks is bad for us might not be the same for another company. It also depends on where you're in the world and what the scientists think.

In the US the government does not have a lot of control over what companies can and cannot do. So companies get to decide for themselves what clean beauty means to them. On the hand the UK and EU have much stricter rules about what can and cannot be in cosmetics. They have. Restricted thousands of ingredients. This means that a product that is called clean in the US might not be considered clean in the UK.

It is also important to remember that clean beauty is not the same as natural or organic. Just because something is natural does not mean it is good for us.. Just because something is made in a lab does not mean it is bad for us. Clean beauty is more about being honest and safe than using plants.

When we are buying beauty products we should look at the list of ingredients how transparent the company. If they have any certifications. We should look for companies that clearly explain what they believe in and how they make their products. We should avoid companies that make claims. Really clean beauty is not about following a lot of rules it is about making choices and being informed.
